Recently, Senate Bill 22 was signed by Governor Arnold Swarzeneger.  The bill allows federal or private monies to be used to expand WIC’s peer counselor programs, improves Medi-Cal access to breast pumps and other breastfeeding assistance, and provides additional training at hospitals with low breastfeeding rates so more women of all incomes are breastfeeding the first forty eight hours after birth.

Thank You!!! Governor Schwarzenegger for recognizing and supporting breastfeeding mothers and their children.
**Also important to note -Medi-Cal will announce that frenotomy will be covered as a benefit in the November 2007 Provider Bulletins.  The benefit will be effective on December 1, 2007.  (Frenotomy a.k.a. frenulotomy or frenulectomy- when indicated, can rapidly improve a poor latch on the breast, and extend the mother's ability to breastfeed without difficulty.  It is usually performed when the frenulum of the newborn is short or tight and interfering with breastfeeding).
