On Oct. 28, 2007, The American Society of Plastic Surgeons announced new research that indicates breastfeeding alone has no impact on a woman’s breast shape and does not creates drooping. This new research was presented at the American Society of Plastic Surgeons (ASPS) Plastic Surgery 2007 conference in Baltimore.
The study examined ninety-three women who had been pregnant one or more times prior to having any cosmetic breast surgery. Fifty eight percent of patients reported breastfeeding one or more of their children for two to twenty five months. Researchers found that ..."a history of breastfeeding, the number of children breastfed, the duration of each child's breastfeeding, were not significant predictors for losing breast shape”. Indicators of losing breast shape and breast sagging were; body mass index, number of pregnancies, a larger pre-pregnancy breast and bra size, history of maternal smoking, and age of woman. Overall, the research finding indicated that breastfeeding does not worsen the effect of breast tissue. |
