A new study, published in the British Journal of Nutrition , finds that mothers who consume organic dairy and meat products positively affect the nutritional quality of their breast milk. Researchers found that a diet in which 90% or more of dairy and meat products are organic in nature are correlated with higher levels of conjugated linoleic acid (CLA)and trans-vaccenic acid (TVA). CLA is a type of fatty acid that is believed to have anti-carcinogenic, anti-atherosclerotic, anti-diabetic and immune-enhancing effects. Overall, researchers founds that levels of CLA and TVA in human breastmilk can be enhanced when a breastfeeding mother consumes organic foods. |
