A mother traveling with a nursing infant under 6 months old need not plan on any supplementation to breastfeeding because of international travel.  Breastfed infants do not require any additional water supplementation, even in extreme heat,  As long as the child is beinf breastfed on demandand the mother is hydrated, breastmilk is enough for the child.

A breastfeeding mother traveling without her nursing infant or child may wish to maintain her milk supply expressing milk and storing it for later use by another caregiver.  Bring all supplies associated with expressing and storing breastmilk.

At this time breast milk does not need to be declared at US Customs when returning to the United States.  Electric breast pumps are considered personal items during air travel and may be carried on and stowed underneath the passenger seat.

The TSA (Transportation Security Administration) has extensive and up to date information regarding traveling with children. The site also includes important information on traveling with stored breastmilk, the screening process and x rays, and traveling with children that have disabilities.
